What's Old is New Again -- Or, More Correctly, Never Changed

This is a reblog of a post I wrote many years ago. It is amazing how the sentiments it relates still hold true. I could replace the list quoted in the post with a new, more up-to-date list, but the point would be the same. Read and discuss among yourselves. ********** It has been a while since I have posted anything here and I do apologize for that to those who read this blog. Its just that there has been so much going on in my life that I haven’t had a moment to stop and reflect on anything. Not that there has been a shortage of things to talk about, the list of things I could address is quite long: • Obama’s preacher – yeah, we all believe you knew nothing about his hate talk. • Gas prices – it is now actually cheaper to fly from Jacksonville, Florida to Buffalo, New York than buy two-week’s worth of gas. • Spitzer’s hypocrisy – gotta love a guy who aggressively prosecuted prostitution rings as a DA and then aggressively patronizes them as a Governor. • Crazy winter and ...

He's Baaaaaaack!

After a long absence, I am back and blogging about the things that get my goat, raise my interest and keep me from slumbering at night. With all that is happening in this wacky world we live in, I am sure there will be plenty to write about. Watch for articles about politics, news, food, drink, deals, etc. Its like your on-line home for a "Today" show-like experience only snarkier. For now, peruse some of the older (OK, very old) posts on this blog to get an idea of what I have in store for you. You will soon find yourself embroiled in wild rants, questionable raves and challenging discussion. Can you dig it?

Ain't That a Kick in the Pants

After three years of dedicated service, my most recent employer decided it was time to part ways. This after arriving home on a Saturday afternoon from a week-long business trip to the happy-time town of Miamisburg, OH. So, back into the roiling waters of the job market I go. Anyone need a moderately talented trainer skilled in needs analysis, scope preparation, curriculum development and course facilitation?

Love One Another? Hell, no! Let's Picket!

In a move which should infuriate each of us, the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday ordered the father of a fallen U.S. Marine to pay more than $16,000 in costs requested by the Westboro Baptist Church for copies of motions, briefs and appendices. Oh, but wait. The costs are a result of his suit against the church because the church picketed his son’s burial with signs that read “God Hates You!”, “You’re Going to Hell!” and “Thank God for Dead Soldiers!” Members of the fundamentalist church based in Topeka, Kansas, appeared outside Snyder's funeral in 2006 in Westminster, Maryland, according to a CNN Justice report published yesterday (http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/03/30/westboro.baptist.snyder/index.html). Among the teachings of the church, which was founded in 1955 by Pastor Fred Phelps, is the belief that God is punishing the United States for "the sin of homosexuality" through events such as soldiers' deaths. This group, under the guise of doing God’s work, r...

Health Revolt

So, now Obama is on the defensive, in an article published today on breitbart.com “President Barack Obama mocked Republicans' campaign to try to repeal his new health care law, saying Thursday they should "Go for it" and see how well they fare with voters.” I guess he wasn’t paying attention to the approval numbers of the American public. According to a Quinnipiac University poll published Thursday, March 25 49% of Americans disapproves of the Health Care Reform Act. The Rasmussen Report published that Obama’s overall disapproval rating across the country is 51%. Realclearpolitics.com reports an averaged (average of ten leading opinion polls) disapproval rating of just over 50%. Had the President paid more attention to the polls he may have noticed that in all of them nearly half the respondents are opposed to the Act. Had a popular vote been taken it could very well have resulted in a stalemate. Instead he engaged in partisan politics – something he himself has vowed to ...

Global Warming? Not Around Here...

Does anyone else feel like the inconvenient truth Al Gore made a movie about is that global warming is a hoax? Over the past few months there have been many articles about how even the scientists involved treated it as a joke. So, Al, bubsy, what gives? I'll tell you, there is record cold in Florida, record snowfall across the heartland and decidedly frigid temps in places that are used to frigid temperatures. Global warming has hit the deep freeze. Consider these headline on the Drudge Report today: Midwest bracing for heavy snow -- wind chills of 50 below! Weekend Freeze Looms for Gulf Coast Arctic Blast: Texas Al, hello, Al where are warming temperatures that will turn our world and atmosphere into a greenhouse and slowly cook us all like a cosmic crockpot? So, here's what I am thinking; let's all break out the snow shoes, hike on up to Big Al's humble abode and ask him to come on out and shovel all of the imaginary snow falling on our warming drive ways... Just sayi...
There are heroes among us. In the depths of the darkest shadow, secreted from the eyes of the everyday citizen, heroes wander the streets righting wrongs and protecting the sleeping innocents from nefarious villains. They arm themselves with the tools necessary to complete their sacred missions and cloak themselves in intimidating costumes. They strike fear in the hearts of every ne’er-do-well and rush to the aide of the weakest among us. Brandishing names such as Shadowhare, Master Legend and Wall Creeper these mighty heroes wrap their cloaks around our cities and vow to remain vigilant and ever watchful for criminals. And they have a really nifty website, too (http://www.reallifesuperheroes.org). Seriously, these guys are out there, wearing spandex and announcing their vigilance. Really. Don’t take my word for it a television station in Cincinnati interviewed the caped and masked crime-fighter Shadowhare and ran the story. You can view it at their website (http://www.wlwt.com/news/19...

Chistmas 2008

Today, Christmas Day 2008, was a day of revelation to me. I learned things today that I have always known, but have taken for granted my entire life. Simple things like the importance of family, the importance of faith, and the importance of being thankful for life I have been given. This year, for the fist time, we had an empty house for Christmas. Our son is away in the Army. He is serving our country and, whether he understands it or note, has made me a very proud man. He overcame his on youthful self-destruction and is making his way in the world. But, he too, is away from his family. His wife, know pregnant with their first child, came back home to be with her family for the holidays. I called him and he sounded fine, his Sergeant had invited him over to spend the holiday with his family. I don’t know this man, but I thank him for his generosity. Our oldest daughter is out on her own, making her own way in the world. She just moved in to her own apartment and her gifts this year c...
